Violence was integral part of human history. It still is. I belive 99% of humans are scared of violence. They don't want to be victims of violence. But among such peace seekers, we may find some who may resort to violence to achieve some goals.
Coming to my case. My heart rate goes up in middle of violence. I would like not to be part of it, given a chance. But then, my behavior, my thinking made few events inevitable. Do I regret them? Answer:ambiguous.
I was always interested in things like terrorism, naxalism, freedom struggle, secession movements...whatever that involved mass proclivity to use violence as means to achieve ends.
Naxalism is close to home. I mean my living place. I am too young to be able to give either accurate or comprehensive picture of that phenomenon.
As kid from a middle class family with a left inclining educated father, I harbored positive opinion about naxalites/rebels...
But as awareness increases, clear answers become rare. As wealth increases moral ambiguity sets in. Things are no more black and white.
When they kill a public enemy(which is rare these days), you tend to like them. When they kill relatively harmless guy, you despise them. When they offer explanations which cannot be comprehended except by lunatic, hardcore red brained guys, you pity them.
Add to this state propaganda, which is essential part of warfare. naxal leaders accumulate great wealth for themselves. We never know if that statement is true or not. But if you look at recent high profile murdered maoists (latest nomenclature for naxalites) , their families seem to be living in penury, that casting a doubt on police planted stories.
Similar are stories by naxals that, they are on verge of revolution.
When we get to read their literature, they talk about total upheaval, zero tolerance towards other political entities.
How can we trust bunch of semi literate/ illiterate guys to have a clear vision of future.
Everybody accepts that, qualified persons aren't joining the movement like they used to be. Does that make any difference? Being enough literate , we are prejudiced towards our ilk.
They talk about banning color televisions. What the heck? What has that got to do with revolution?
Yes, Indian democracy isn't real democracy. Only moneyed class/ thugs can become players in this scenario.
It's depressing. But..Evoking Lenin, Mao, Marx who are alien to our ethos...Is it the solution? We even don't know the geography, social conditions, their personalities to trust their words.
Can't we have somebody whom we know as role model.
An eye for an eye will make world blind. Does it not hold true any more?
All the leftist intellectuals, social activists, ..Why are they sooooooo left? So bigoted? Everything done by others looks like a conspiracy to them.
I was reading this today somewhere.
"Big industrialists profits are made of low salaries that don't match what they pay for piss in a London pay toilet".
Right, then?
It's a fact, but what's the interpretation? Who's forcing anybody to work at such low pay? You are paid for your skills. And what is industrialist doing with profits? If he has survival streak in him, he will reinvest them and employ more people at whatever wages they deserve.
Capitalism isn't perfect. But don't blame that for your incompetence. Your life is wasted on complaints.
We moan that 30% of Indian population is poor. Or is it 40%. Isn't it an achievement that rest 70% (70+ crores) are able to afford basics. And this in a country with no oil, no industrial revolution, too many social differences that prevent complete harmony of purpose and enterprise.
yes, we can do better. Not by crying. Not by complaining.
Take Singur project. I hate communists/ pseudo communists according to maoists. But I will not paint everything they do with same prejudice. We are talking about 1000 acres. And protests are about loss of agriculture production. Inadequate compensation. 1000 acres of industrial complex employs many more people than 1000 acres of agriculture land.
If agriculture is so remunerative, we wouldn't have migration, suicides et al.
Ofcourse TATAs are idiots to take govt route to acquire land. Why can't they buy land by themselves. Why can't govt make farmers stake holders in project. Equity cum cash deal / total cash, take whatever you want. I am sure farmers will go for Total cash deal, because they are better investors of their money. And don't need to trust TATAs to increase their wealth.
Nobody asks all questions. Nobody answers all questions. Life goes on.
